We are excited to announce that walking safaris are now an option at Mavela! Join our experienced trails guide on an experience unlike anything else. Walking provides the opportunity to slow down and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. Study the details of tracks left in the sand by passing animals, touch and feel the soft leaves of a Red Ivory or meditate to the melodic sounds of a Robin. Each walk will last around 3 hours and will give you the opportunity to experience wildlife in a unique way, while under the safe supervision of our highly trained trails guide.
Of course there is also the thrill of coming into contact with one of the larger animals found on our reserve! The reserve is host to all members of the Big 5; lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and Elephant, as well as Cheetah and Wild Dog. The thrill of coming into contact with one of these animals is unlike anything else. Although they are not easy to find, the trails ranger will teach you how to analyse and examine the tracks and signs left behind by the animals. An ancient technique that takes years to learn, the art of tracking is something incredible to witness. Recently Nico was able to find a large White Rhino out on a walk. The guests were allowed to view this animal safely from about 40 metres away!
We give our guests the best possible chance of viewing these animals on foot, by offering walking safaris that last around 3 hours and depart early morning to catch the animals while it is cool and they are still active. Half way through the walk our guide will stop for a break. This is your opportunity to relax in the shade of a Marula tree and engage with the wilderness.
